2023 – 2024 Committees


PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

Chair:

Duties: Arrange speakers for monthly meetings. Send speaker’s biographical information to President, and notify the Publicity Committee of the speaker and topic. Coordinates and plans AAPA’s semi-annual seminars and obtains approval for CPE credit/re-certification points The NC State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification.


MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Chair:  Cyndi Williams

Duties: Maintain and update membership list of all categories of members, including area of practice;  Prepare and maintain new member packets/brochures; distribute new member packets /brochures to first-time attendees; update and maintain email list; compile and submit surveys to members periodically to determine areas of interest re: speakers, concerns of members re: areas for improvement, feedback on Association as to whether it is meeting the needs of membership, and recruit new members and manage membership drives.


SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

Chair:  Terrie Blackburn

Administer scholarships, to include: draft scholarship application; distribute applications to area high schools, colleges and universities; review applications and select qualified candidates; interview candidates; submit recommendation for awards to Executive Board for approval; submit articles to local media regarding scholarship awards; coordinate attendance of scholarship recipients at AAPA meetings, as applicable.


PUBLICITY COMMITTEE

Chair:  Pam Peterson

Duties: Maintain web site and social media sites; maintain the job bank; prepares, distributes and compiles the results of a salary survey every two years, work with local Bar Association to establish rapport. Maintain contact with Bar and offer support for their programs; contact Bar Association, Pisgah Legal, and other non-profit legal organizations about paralegal support available for pro bono activities and inform membership of these opportunities to participate; monitor activities and keep membership informed of items of interest; submit articles to Bar Association for publication in newsletter re: utilization of paralegals; maintain list of members available to speak to various civic groups, paralegal students, etc. about the paralegal profession and the Association in general.


NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Chair: The Immediate Past President

Duties: Research qualifications of and solicit nominees for upcoming Officer elections, present slate of Officers to Board, upon Board approval, present slate of Officers to membership for voting.


GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE

Chair: Terrie Blackburn

Duties: Draft Rules & Bylaws, assure on a continuing basis that any recommended or proposed course(s) of action agree with Rules & Bylaws as currently written. Reviews governance issues and reports such research to the President.
