The Susan B. Russo Scholarship
The Asheville Area Paralegal Association offers two scholarships in recognition of our founding member and local attorney Susan B. Russo-Klein.
Student Scholarship
An annual scholarship of $1,000 to be used for tuition, books, and other scholastic needs are an ABA Accredited Paralegal Studies/Certificate program. Applications are to be submitted by the student to the Scholarship Committee for review by August 1st prior to the beginning of the Fall semester/quarter. If awarded, the funds will be deposited into the recipient’s school account by the beginning of the Fall semester/quarter.
Criteria for Applying:
- Must be enrolled in an ABA Approved Paralegal Studies/Certificate Program
- Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA
- Application does include a personal and educational or professional reference
- Financial Need will be considered, but will not be the sole determining factor in awarding the scholarship. This is a primarily merit-based scholarship.

Member Scholarship
An annual scholarship of $500, to be used for CLE/CPE studies, paralegal certification testing fees, advanced paralegal certification degrees, paralegal certifications study programs, or other educational or professional development goals of our members. Applications are due in January of each year, and if there are no applications in January, the Committee will again accept applications in June of each year. Funds will be deposited into the recipient’s account to be used for tuition, books, and other scholastic needs. If scholarship is used to complete requirements for CLE or other specialized paralegal designation, the funds will be payable to the organization/institution administering the course and/or testing.
Criteria for Applying:
- Must be a professional member of the AAPA and in good standing
- Must attend an accredited program focused on professional development of the paralegal profession
- Professional and personal recommendation is required
- Financial need will be considered, but will not be the sole determining factor in awarding the scholarship
